5/9/2010 · May not ever do another triathlon again. Doesn’t mean i’m not an ironman. I want it to remind me to carry the fortitude and guts it took to accomplish Ironman into whatever it is I decide to do next, in life, athletics, and beyond. Maybe I’ll do a double ironman next and get the M-dot with a little squared symbol .
I wanted to get the classic M-dot because it’s a recognizable symbol of Ironman but I wanted it to be original as well. So, I embellished the M-dot with the tree that the Coeur d’Alene race uses as its symbol and added the mountains to represent the terrain in CdA.
So, when folks look to go for their first Ironman race, they have to decide whether or not to choose an official Ironman race (commonly referred to as M-DOT, for the Ironman logo), or an independent race of the same distance. Theres often a pretty huge difference between the two, so.

The Ironman trademark (the second link is to one of the many Ironman registrations) is an extremely valuable trademark to the World Triathlon Corporation. The WTC works to protect its unauthorized use (though sometimes I do question their authorized use ).
