Feb 3rd, 2020. The Government of Papua New Guinea has halted negotiations with ExxonMobil over a gas agreement for the proposed Pnyang gas field development in the countrys Western Highlands.
The P`nyang agreement is one of two agreements Exxon and its partners need to advance their $13 billion plan to expand LNG exports. The other agreement , the Papua LNG Pact, was sealed by Total in September. Discussions on the P`nyang gas deal continue despite the current low level of oil prices.

1/31/2020 · After several months of dedication and good faith engagement by the SNT, Exxon Mobils offer had barely changed from its opening offer presented last November and is not substantially different from the Papua LNG Gas Agreement . That is unacceptable. The gas belongs to PNGs people. We are willing to allow international oil companies to develop the field and achieve decent returns by exporting most of the gas.

In its 2020 first-quarter report released on Tuesday, Oil Search noted that an agreement was needed before the LNG expansion could move into the front end engineering phase.
